Coverage choices.
Clearer conversations.
Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement insurance serve different roles. Understanding the difference is a useful first step.
| Consideration | Medicare Advantage (Part C) | Medicare Supplement (Medigap) |
|---|---|---|
| How it fits | A private-plan alternative for receiving Medicare Part A and Part B benefits. | Private insurance that helps pay certain costs left by Original Medicare. |
| What to review | Provider networks, prescriptions, plan rules, total costs, and benefits. | Policy benefits, premiums, eligibility, and any underwriting requirements. |
| Your next step | Check the specific plan’s documents and provider information. | Review the policy and how it fits with Original Medicare and drug coverage. |
Medigap does not pay Medicare Advantage plan costs. These are different coverage paths, not products to stack together. Specific rules and eligibility must be reviewed.

Common Medicare questions
Is Medicare Advantage the same as Medigap?
No. Medicare Advantage is a private-plan way to receive Medicare benefits. Medigap supplements Original Medicare and cannot pay Medicare Advantage copayments, deductibles, or premiums.
Can I change coverage whenever I want?
Enrollment and switching opportunities depend on your circumstances and the coverage involved. We review the applicable rules before discussing an application; a website visit does not establish an enrollment right.
Will all doctors or prescriptions be covered?
Do not assume they will be. Check the specific plan’s current provider directory, drug list, and coverage rules before choosing.
Where can I find official information?
Visit Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), TTY 1-877-486-2048, for official information and help with plan choices.
