Identify your programs
VA health care, TRICARE and CHAMPVA are different programs. Write down which apply to you and which providers and pharmacies you currently use.
Map where you receive care
Discuss VA and non-VA care needs separately. Ask how Medicare and existing benefits apply in each setting. Do not assume all benefits pay together for the same service.
Protect what is working
Before changing or cancelling coverage, ask the relevant benefits program how the proposed change affects access, prescriptions, costs and eligibility. A general advertisement cannot answer that for every veteran.
